People with issues

I'm so excited for New Moon to come out. Dork alert, I know. I am still stunned by how ridiculous people can be. Here I am dealing with MS and the effects of it and people call me with their 'crisis' of the day. Stupid shit like being out of a brand of lipstick, what the president said- or didn't say-, and so on. I have friends in bands with problems such booking too much, booking to little, turning down bookings, drummer issues, bass player issues, lead singers being asshole issues. It is so stupid when I am having 'hoping my vision doesn't go out today' issues. (it has before)

Maybe I am a dork. Maybe I am into Twilight and the movie saga- but I can't deal with this anymore! Don't call me to complain about petty shit!

Oh, I'm redoing my MySpace page tonight. My website, www.tanyavece.com will be 100% online as of 12/01/2009 and I'm dealing with other crap too.

A Word on The Pepsi Brand

Passing this along from my former, Public Relations, instructor. Thanks Rich.

As a marketer, PepsiCo appears lost. As a company, it might be in trouble.

While there is something to be said for experimentation, PepsiCo has canned more marketing misses than hits in the last year. In an effort to continually target the next generation, it seems to have forgotten how to be a business. In fact, if it wasn't for its salty snack holdings being considered a staple, we suspect its fizzy drink section might start to dry up.

In some ways, it has. In October, PepsiCo Americas Beverages unit reported a 6 percent drop in volume and a 9 percent revenue decline. According to some analysts, the result reflects a change in buying habits as consumers shifted toward juices and teas and away from soft drinks. That might be true, but 6 percent is twice the drop experienced by Coca-Cola.

Marketing Mistakes Are Clubbing PepsiCo

In most circumstances, we think it's great when companies turn to crowd-sourcing for a single campaign. It helps many of them steer clear of isolated creative ideas that don't resonate with consumers.

PepsiCo has had its fair share of those: identity redesign, election revolution, Tropicana rebrand, iPhone app, and, well, you get the idea. (All of it might not be so bad if it wasn't for its negative publicity, but there has been some of that too.)

So, in an effort to put its product marketing back on track, Pepsi is pushing to try something new. It will put the reigns of creative control in the hands of consumers who will be charged in choosing which advertising agencies will handle three product launches. Say what?

In a contest beginning this month, Mtn Dew (Montain Dew for those unimpressed with the stylized abbreviation) will hand off marketing duties, at least temporarily, for a $100 million-plus business to several potentially unknown players selected by consumers. The concept, if you can call it that, is an extension of DEWmocracy, which allowed consumers to determine the flavor, color, packaging, and names of the new products.

"If we're going to have a dialogue with consumers and have consumers play a role in dictating the future of our brand, they've got to play a role in all aspects of it," Brett O'Brien, Mtn Dew's director of marketing, told AdAge. (One commenter on the article suggested they open up marketing director recruitment to crowd-sourcing too.)

Crowd-sourcing Runs Amuck With Pepsi

While Mtn Dew will retain BBDO Worldwide, which was part of DEWmocracy from the beginning, the agency will not comment on the process. For the efforts of DEWmocracy, Beverage Digest reports Mtn Dew is one of the few soft-drink successes, with a volume increase of 1 percent. However, it's unclear if DEWmocracy had much to do with it despite what's being said.

In some cases, DEWmocracy consumers seem to be experiencing brand fatigue, with drop off at each stage of the contest concept. (Some people even speculate that Pepsi stacked the odds for the company favorite.) On Facebook, every few posts also contain consumer comments that lament over the loss of their top choice. ("Any chance to bring Pitch Black back?"). And like many social media efforts, the fans are mostly left on their own, which is usually a mistake.

That's not to say that outsourcing the creative selection process to consumers is all bad. It clearly makes the marketing department not responsible for the $100 million decision. It truly leaves the consumers in control of the product, which means their relationship to the contest and each other may supersede any relationship with the product. It also places an emphasis on "I like it" advertising, which is best described as a three-second knee jerk reaction, without considering things like, er, sales.

Of course, there is always the chance that the finalists will not only be good, but be better than a one hit wonder. They'll almost have to be better once Pepsi funds the three finalists to produce a :15 TV DEW spot (assuming oversight doesn't dampen their spirits). And, they might also do better than what pushed Mtn Dew to this point before settling on Distortion, WhiteOut, and Typhoon as product names.

Anything is possible, right? We'll see. If nothing else, DEWmocracy makes for an interesting case study in consumer crowd-sourcing despite its similarity to gambling at a roulette wheel. Then again, we suppose it couldn't get any worse compared to some of the other company's marketing mishaps of late.

Fergies' Husband... and the stripper.

I really am not a Fergei Fan, or a JD, fan but let me give you my scoop on this story.

I think JD cheated. I have been on the other end of fame when it walks out the door. The friends, the creditability, the parties- all that is at risk for the one who is less famous.

I think JD is a douche. Really, what does this girl have to gain? Yeah she is in the spotlight but her kids will have to read about this later. I think Josh cheated and the minute the girl came forward all of a sudden she is 'crazy', or a 'whore' or 'lying'- whatever! She has phone records to back it up, she has evidence beyond evidence. The Fergie / JD camp has obviously decided to spin the PR in the direction of trying to take this chick down and ignore the fact that her husband REALLY did cheat on her. Why would the stripper say she has phone records if she didn't? Think about it. I hate to say it but I have been in this circumstance, well sorta.

I've been on the end of romantic advances, monetary advances, and all other offers to NOT put my Layne book out by some pretty heavy hitters. When I said no, my reputation became a smear campaign. Like this stripper, I'm not going anywhere. I know what I built on my own two feet. I just can't believe the nerve of Fergie's camp. But then again, I can. I had someone I thought was a freind up and attempt to throw my shit to the wind because he can't deal with his own issues. I managed through it and so will the stripper. I just hope this poser , JD, gets thrown out on his ass.

I truly think it is bullshit what they are doing. Own up, like Letterman, and move on. Don't try to destroy some girl who happened to get a little star envious (which most people can) and took an opportunity she thought may work out for her. Trust me, I know she must be regretting it now. Josh D. is an asshole and I don't respect him at all.

Tanya

This past week

Ahhh, this past week has been strange. I had a doctors appointment the other night. One of my many. Hated it. I can't sleep correctly. Everytime I fall asleep, I wake up to the television station being changed. Either someone is messing with me or my house is haunted..... I'm going to setup a camera. Today's emailed rumor is that I am dating some guy from this band called 'Shirley' out of Nebraska. Thanks dude for posting that all of your myspace and message boards but it is SO not true.

I'm not dating anyone right now. I'm focusing on trying to feel better.

Thus, I will return to my morning Oatmeal and being annoyed.

Love ya!

Tanya Vece Intro Post, Rumors- Pissed People- Etc.

I wanted to take the time to note my first blog. There has always been a lot of shit written about me online. I have heard it all. Apparently, according to several sites, I have various kids with various celebrities, I have been married in a few witch ceremonies, and I have died twice.
As everyone knows not everything you read on the internet is fact. Thus, if you get something stating it is from me, or was from me, ect., please contact me before believe it is true. Some things are small and some are large. One of the smaller things was a band told a new member they were working with me when they weren’t The guy emails me and I had no clue who we was. I spoke to him in detail and guess what - we got down to the bottom of it. Turns out someone from my past pitches was telling people I rep'd his band. Ahhh the aggrivation! One of the larger ones is I am the rep for Alice in Chains or other various large in scale bands. Though none of these items are true – it has been out there on the net. Public Relations officials are often noted on the band’s webpage and/or MySpace pages. Bands that I have handled in the past, as an independent public relations rep, have all been developmental bands. Period. I have read all kinds of crazy shit on the net and it really does bug me.

Also, people are just mean. I woke up this morning to an attempt to extort me. Something I had nothing to do with comes up and all of a sudden an angered band member is on my ass about his former band, and former public relations work with me. Basically it stated "give me my money back or I'm telling the world you are a fake"- hmmmm.. Ok, but you and I know that isn't true. Is this a test of the current economy or just a drug habit out of control? Thus, the slander begins. I know I write a lot of controversial entertainment blogs for The Horse Chronicles. I wrote stuff in the past about Brett Michaels and have had every groupie of his write even nastier shit about me in return. I understand freedom of opinion is one of the beautiful liberties of the Internet. However, it is when those opinions are stated as facts about someone that they become hurtful and possibly liable.

I use to write a Gossip Column for The Steamboat Local out of Colorado. I understand being on both ends of the fence. However, when people with axes to grind, people with drug problems, people with people problems, people pissed off at their own bands, and so forth- bring me into their issues and then unwarently attack me…. I begin to get concerned.

My magazine will be back online as of 11/09/2009. In the past I have interviewed Bumblefoot of Guns N’ Roses (documented on his site), Johnny Wator of The Last Vegas (documented on the band’s site), George Nastos, Mumpsy, Handful of Luvin, Nick Rozz, author Jennifer Storm- and others. All with documentation. If you do not see the documentation of my interview also on the artist’s site- chances are it isn’t MINE. Again, with the jealously and attempts to ruin me by various disgruntled people.

Thus, this is my personal blog. My personal email is ‘mediumpress@aol.com’ If something is passed off as looking like it came from me, but is slightly strange, - let me know.
I have heard so many rumors that I am the bastard daughter, from a transvestite, of Nikki Sixx, that I am really Keanu Reeves’ sister, that I am the 7th member of The Whiggs, that I was married to Russell Brand, that I am related to Leo Dicaprio – and so on. If it sounds like bullshit, it probably is.

As most of you know I have become very ill. After a diagnosis with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis in 2005, I tried to continue on living a productive life. This past year of hell as landed me homebound. I will try to update the blog as much as possible. Due to the neurological issue there may be some bad days where I don’t update at all. The effects of the condition have caused a lot of problems that I am trying to deal with, work through, etc.

Again, don’t contact me about publicity. I am not taking on any development bands at this time. I am not working any events either. If someone is writing , or spreading, gossip about me (negative, positive, either way) on a message board- I would question why they are doing it. I have had disgruntled band members who were fired take it out on me, addicts who needed money, and so forth. I even had a band member try to sleep with me, I said no and then all of a sudden I was the bad guy. He went on to write I was gay. Nothing wrong with being gay, but trust me- that ain't me.

Finally, my book about Layne Staley gets the most questions. There have been questions about a Jerry Cantrell endorsement. I am not aware of him ‘revoking’ or ‘endorsing’ the book. Either way, I don’t care. The book has nothing to do with Jerry Cantrell or Alice in Chains. There are no sites on the web, to date, selling this book. Per my medical condition – the book has been delayed. However, yes it WILL be published and hopefully in early 2010. The book is based on my experiences with the late Layne Staley and I can for sure assure you what you think you might know about the book is 100% false. I have heard everything and so far all the guesses on the basis for the book are wrong. I have read some horrible “excerpts” that someone using my name put on the internet as the book. NOTHING HAS BEEN RELEASED. Some promotion in 2007/2008 was done but then I got sick so we are on delay. Never in the promotion was any excerpts released to any media. The book isn't for sale anywhere on the net. Someone emailed me after they purchased it for $19.99 via this strange bookstore out of MN. The book is NOT in print.

I don’t really have too much else to say for this first blog. It has been upsetting to me to read all this crazy stuff about me and really have no chance to defend myself. Thus, I am looking forward to this personal blog. I also laugh because those in glasses houses shouldn’t throw stones. I’m off to attend to some medical things now.

Best,
Tanya L. Vece
